The Swan Hotel & Spa
Built in 1623 as a coaching inn, the Swan Hotel offers guests the ultimate in Lake District luxurious stays.
With their family and dog friendly rooms and self catering cottages, they cater for all, including corporate conferences, weddings, or just that family stay with something for everyone.
Previous Tour Boat
In 1867, a paddle steamer, The Rothay, was built to a special design by the Lancaster Shipbuilding Company. Due to the narrow River Leven and the shallow water, this paddle steamer was built with a rudder at each end to avoid having to turn around.
The Rothay connected with the Lancaster to Ulverston stagecoach and the Lancaster to Whitehaven stagecoach, terminating at Ambleside. The Rothay was scrapped in 1897.
As far as we are aware, we are the only other boat service to operate from Newby Bridge since 1897, albeit with a much smaller boat.
If you are staying at the Swan Hotel, ask the receptionist about booking one of our tours, possibly with a Swan Hotel afternoon tea to go.
